This position will give autonomy and exposure to an array of personal care wet wipe opportunities that will help broaden your scope and stimulate your energies, all while supporting development of personal care formulation and formulation improvements from concept through commercialization.

Primary Responsibilities

The qualified candidate will be responsible for executive work assignments from the Sr. Project Manager to ensure customer acceptance, safety, efficacy and regulatory compliance of Rockline developed formulations. This role will be a mix of development, project management and technical support. Some examples of function in this role include:

  • Create new wet wipe formulations, new preservatives systems, and optimize existing formulations in conjunction with substrates and packaging developments against a Project Authorization brief. All done with guidance from a Sr. Project Manager.
  • Manage personal care formulation projects for primarily Contract Manufacturing Services.
  • Prepare and maintain Product Information Porfolios (PIP) for each wet wipe product to comply with applicable regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain Master Formulations Specifications. This includes providing technical data within the specifications for product formulations, products, and liasing with the customer's technologists.
  • Arrange preservative challenge testing, performance testing, safety testing, stability studies, and other technical evaluations. This will involve interpretation and reporting of results.
  • Assure that all products comply with all regulatory and safety regulations and guidelines, and do no knowingly infringe on valid intellectual property.
  • Investigate and implement new testing methods to substantiate product performance and/or efficiency claims of a new or existing product or formulation.
  • Arrange and technically support pilot trials. This will involve liasing with operations, production planning, and quality and warehouse to assure trial objectives are met. 
  • Ensure laboratory safety policies and guidelines are followed and carry out all laboratory work in a safe manner.

Requirements 

  • 5+ years in of applicable work experience in industry
  • Formulation experience with personal care products is preferred, willing to consider experience with food/household
  • Skill in product formulation development is essential
  • General working knowledge of personal care product regulations and previous exposure in wet wipe development will be a strong plus.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects and to design and execute an experiment and interpret results

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Scientific discipline

Job Description

Active Micro Technologies and Active Concepts, LLC is seeking a highly qualified Cosmetic Formulation Chemist to fill a strategic role within the company. This position will report directly to the Technical Marketing Department and work closely with the Sales Department. The Applications Chemist will learn the science of the current active ingredients and antimicrobial developed by the company and will seek to expand the company's knowledge and understanding of formulations that can be developed using these ingredients. This position will work closely with the US Marketing and Sales team to support customer needs and will be expected to be able to answer strategic questions from the customers working with Active Micro Technologies and Active Concepts LLC ingredients.

Requirements

  • 5-10+ years in Personal Care Industry
  • Skill in product formulation development is essential
  • Working knowledge of polymer, surfactant, emulsion chemistry, preservation, as well as cationic/anionic compatibility in relation to Personal Care application and product development.
  • Ability to build finished formulations from ground up
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Toxicologist

 This position is responsible for providing overall toxicology expertise in the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR), supporting the development and implementation of a coordinated approach to the safety assessment of cosmetic ingredients that 1) maximizes the number of ingredients in each report and 2) bolsters the overall weight of evidence with regard to safety conclusions on cosmetic ingredients.  Such approaches may include, but are not limited to, the use of structure/activity relationships (SAR) and consideration of chemical groups with similar toxicological properties (e.g., read across approaches) or relevant calculations (e.g., threshold of toxicological concern evaluations, quantitative risk assessments, margin of safety, etc.).In addition to supporting the implementation of this coordinated approach, the position is responsible for spearheading the use of computational, or in silico, tools for review by the CIR Expert Panel and future integration into safety assessments.  Beginning with the implementation of currently available computational programs (e.g., OECD QSAR Toolbox), and building the CIR Expert Panel’s confidence in the use of such tools, the incumbent will also lead efforts conducted by technical vendors to further develop a CIR Chemistry and Toxicology Database & Workflows.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Provides toxicology expertise within CIR.

  • Attends Expert Panel meetings and engages in the review for all assessments. Although CIR writers are expected to be knowledgeable about their reports and able to interact with the Panel to identify data gaps, to respond to questions regarding available or needed data, and assist the Panel in developing languages to express ideas under discussion, the incumbent toxicologist defends the scientific content of all CIR reports at those meetings, when needed.  The incumbent also ensures that CIR staff are well prepared in advance of CIR Expert Panel meetings.
  • Revises and edits reports prepared by scientific writers in a timely way, before and after each meeting, ensuring that the specific, technical opinions of the CIR Expert Panel members are accurately reflected in those revisions and edits.
  • Represents CIR at professional meetings, and documents such meetings and other contacts.

Scientific Writer/Analyst or Senior Scientific Writer/Analyst

  This Scientific Writer/Analyst position is responsible for conducting scientific literature searches, summarizing relevant data and preparing literature reviews, and working with the CIR Expert Panel, scientists and staff to develop safety assessments of ingredients used in cosmetics and other personal care products in accordance with CIR procedures (http://www.cir-safety.org/sites/default/files/pdf1.pdf). The position entails reviewing and summarizing, in a concise manner: published and unpublished toxicology and toxicokinetics studies; exposure data; methods of manufacture; impurities data; and other scientific studies relevant to assessing the safety of ingredients and ingredient groups to be evaluated at quarterly public CIR Expert Panel meetings. At these meetings, clear communication with the Panelists during their deliberations is of paramount importance to this position, as is the editing of the safety assessment reports, immediately following the meetings, based on the Panel’s decisions and directions. A graduate degree in toxicology, chemistry, biology, or related scientific-intense discipline, may warrant recruitment to an advanced position, Senior Scientific Writer/Analyst. Significant, relevant experience in scientific writing and literature review, and a working knowledge, and efficient use of, search strategies and tools, may be considered in lieu of a graduate degree, for such a position. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  • Undertakes the development of individual cosmetic ingredient safety assessments, handling at any one time 3-7 assessments in      various stages of development. (Senior position handles 5-10 assessments at any one time.)
  • Searches literature and databases to identify published scientific articles and other publically-available information that are relevant for the safety assessments of the ingredients and ingredients groups assigned
